Stronger Than You Think
One of the best birthday gifts I’ve received was my 3-year-old’s BRAVERY.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I watched her tackle something she found DAUNTING yet THRILLING: the old-fashioned monkey bar dome.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She loved a climbing challenge, but her eagerness dissipated three rungs high.
At the height of the dome, she felt off-balance and out of control. She froze and dissolved into tears.⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I want snuggles, Mommy!”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Any other time I would have readily picked her up and held her tight.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But that day I stayed at arm’s length.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“You are so brave and strong. You’ve got this. Just look where you need to put your hands next, and you’ll be okay.”⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I knew she needed this moment to push through her resistance and fears and discover the potential I saw in her.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And she did it — 5 times over! (I had to bribe her away with our picnic lunch.)
